Arto Noras (born in 1942 in Turku, Finland) is a true master of his instrument. He is one of the most distinguished cellists of his generation, enjoying an international reputation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

At the age of six, Arto Noras began his studies under Yrj\u00f6 Selin at the prestigious Sibelius Academy in Helsinki, Finland. Following these studies, he trained with Paul Tortelier at the Paris Conservatory, where he was awarded the Premier Prix<\/em> in 1964. Two years later, in 1966, he won second prize at the International Tchaikovsky Competition in Moscow \u2013 a milestone that immediately opened doors to major concert halls across Europe, North and South America, and later, Asia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In 1970, Arto Noras was appointed Professor of Cello at the Sibelius Academy in Helsinki, a position he held for 40 years. Subsequently, he was invited to lead a cello class at the Hochschule f\u00fcr Musik<\/em> in Hamburg, Germany. He has also conducted masterclasses worldwide and served as a jury member for some of the most prestigious international cello competitions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In 1980, Arto Noras founded the Naantali Music Festival, serving as its artistic director for over 40 years. In 1991, he established the International Paulo Cello Competition, where he continues to serve as artistic director to this day. He was also a founding member of the Sibelius Academy Quartet. His repertoire encompasses all the major works for the cello, including pieces by contemporary composers. He has performed as a soloist with leading orchestras and conductors across the globe. As a chamber musician, he has concertized with many of the most distinguished musicians of our time. He has worked closely with numerous composers, such as Krzysztof Penderecki, Aulis Sallinen, and Jeajoon Ryu. Arto Noras has performed works by Maestro Krzysztof Penderecki \u2013 under the composer\u2019s own baton \u2013 on four different continents.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Arto Noras has made numerous recordings, including several of works dedicated to him.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
