String Quintet featuring musicians from the Vienna Philharmonic will perform on November 6th at 19:00, 320 meters underground in the Guido Mine in Zabrze. This is where it all began – the XII Krzysztof Penderecki International Festival – level 320 – will symbolically rise from the ashes like a Phoenix in this extraordinary space. The venue will be symbolic, as will the program – consisting of the same compositions that were performed in 2013 during the opening of the first edition of the Festival, in the presence of the Patron, as part of the celebrations of his 80th birthday. Renowned for their exceptional sound quality, the musicians from Vienna will delight the audience with an incredibly melodic and almost dance-inducing masterpiece of chamber music – Antonín Dvořák‘s String Quintet in G major – as well as a metaphorical journey into the childhood world of Penderecki, through his quintet “Leaves of an Unwritten Diary,” which had its Polish premiere right here in Zabrze, twelve years ago. An additional highlight will be the performance of the highly challenging, virtuosic “Duo concertante” for violin and double bass by this composer.
